Kozhikode (Keralam), Oct 16 (PTI) Police on Friday said a case had been registered against six toll plaza employees in Olavanna for allegedly diverting around Rs 7 lakh in collections to private accounts using QR codes.

The case was registered at Pantheerankavu police station on Thursday under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the alleged cheating.

According to police, the accused allegedly diverted toll collections between September 2 and October 5 by using a QR code linked to a private account instead of the authorised payment system. The QR code was allegedly provided by the first accused, police said.

The complainant, Amith Kumar Sharma (36), a manager at the company operating the toll plaza, alleged that the diversion caused a loss of around Rs 7 lakh to the company, police said.

The accused have been identified as Vipin Rajputh (23), Umashankar (40), Monty Rajputh (21), Harimohan (19), Shivam (21) and Naveensingh Bhadoriya (24), all hailing from different states in north India.

Police have taken one of the accused into custody as part of the investigation, officials said.

Further investigation is underway. PTI TBA SSK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
