Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 18 (PTI) The Keralam GST department has detected prima facie tax evasion of Rs 7.56 crore in vehicle parking services at railway stations across the state, officials said.
The Intelligence and Enforcement wings of the state GST department jointly conducted inspections on September 16 at 69 locations, including the principal places of business, residences and additional business premises of 22 taxpayers providing vehicle parking services on railway premises in Keralam.
The inspections found that the turnover declared by the taxpayers in their returns was substantially lower than the actual turnover from the services, according to a CMO statement issued on Friday.
Transactions through multiple QR codes were also detected during the inspections, it said.
Prima facie, suppression of turnover amounting to Rs 42 crore and tax evasion of Rs 7.56 crore were detected, the statement said.
Details of business transactions of 13 taxpayers were collected from software systems, while information of the others was gathered from books, registers and mobile chats, it said.
A detailed investigation into the matter is under way, the statement added.
The State GST Intelligence wing has collected details of vehicle parking facilities at more than 1,000 locations, including KSRTC premises, hospitals, malls and theatres.
Inspections at establishments suspected of tax evasion in the sector will continue, the statement said.
The State GST Commissioner said investigations and enforcement action against establishments involved in tax evasion would be intensified. PTI LGK SSK
