Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 15 (PTI) Kerala Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty on Saturday said the state has achieved another milestone in the defence sector, with state-owned Keltron securing self-certification rights to manufacture advanced equipment for Indian Navy ships and submarines.
In a Facebook post, Kunhalikutty said that Keltron (Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation Limited), a state-owned electronics enterprise, was manufacturing advanced equipment for Indian Navy ships and submarines, with the full support of the Industries Department, as part of the state government’s 100-day action programme.
Kunhalikutty said that in a function held at the minister’s official residence on Friday, the Quality Assurance Organisation under the Union Defence Ministry handed over “Self Certification Rights” to Keltron for manufacturing electromagnetic logs used to measure the speed of ships, echo sounders used to determine depth and underwater communication systems that facilitate communication between ships and submarines.
Additional Director General Rear Admiral Ajith Thekkepat handed over the recognition to Keltron Managing Director Sreekumar Nair, the minister said.
Kunhalikutty said Keltron also handed over specially designed equipment for the Indian Navy and Coast Guard to Rear Admiral Ajith.
Adding to the significance of the development, the Indian Navy placed another order with Keltron for a submarine echo sounder, he said.
