Bengaluru, Jul 28 (PTI) The monsoon session of the Karnataka Legislature will be held for 10 days from August 13.

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has summoned both Houses of the Legislature to meet at 11 am on August 13.

The session will conclude on August 27.

This will be the first session of the Legislature after D K Shivakumar assumed office as Chief Minister on June 3.

The session will also witness the election of a new Assembly Speaker, as U T Khader, who held the post until the previous session, resigned after being inducted as Health Minister in the Shivakumar government.

Discussions are underway within the ruling Congress on expanding the Shivakumar-led Cabinet ahead of the session.

Against the sanctioned strength of 34 ministers, including the chief minister, 20 Cabinet berths remain vacant, putting pressure on Shivakumar to carry out the long-pending expansion.

The drought situation, the NEET paper leak row, alleged irregularities in KPSC recruitment and the ongoing Cauvery water issue with Tamil Nadu are expected to figure prominently during the session. PTI KSU SSK
