Mumbai: Saif Ali Khan is undergoing surgery for an injury on his arm, his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan has said in a statement after the Bollywood actor was hospitalised following a scuffle with an armed intruder in his Bandra home on Wednesday night.

Lilavati Hospital, where the  54-year-old actor is being treated, has said that Khan was admitted with six stab wounds, of which two were deep and one near the spine. A foreign object is lodged near his spine, it added.

An FIR has already been registered at the Bandra police station. Mumbai Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dixit Gedam told ThePrint that the motive of the accused remained unclear.

There was an attempted burglary at Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s residence last night, Kareena’s team statement read.

“Saif had an injury on his arm for which he is in hospital, undergoing a procedure. The rest of the family is doing fine. We request media and fans to be patient and not speculate any further as the police are already doing their due investigations. Thank you all for your concern,” it added.

Saif was brought to the hospital around 3 am by the caretaker, Lilavati said in a statement. The actor is being operated on by Dr Nitin Dange, consultant neurosurgeon, Dr Leena Jain, consultant plastic surgeon, Dr Nisha Gandhi, consultant anaesthesiologist, Dr Kavita Srinivas, intensivist, and Dr Manoj Deshmukh, consultant radiologist.
