Thane, Jul 14 (PTI) The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) in Maharashtra has imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on a housing project for allegedly failing to process its solid waste and dumping garbage in the open, officials said.
The KDMC had received several complaints that the Titwala-based housing society’s garbage collection and waste processing facility was frequently non-functional and remained shut, an official release said.
The civic body said action was taken against the project developing company after it was found to be violating provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules.
An inspection of the premises on July 9 showed the waste processing centre at the housing project was not operational, it said.
Under the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, notified by the state’s Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department, large housing societies are required to process and scientifically dispose of the waste generated within their premises.
Despite being served notices earlier by the civic body, the housing project failed to comply with the statutory provisions, the release said. PTI COR GK
