Ranchi, Jun 23 (PTI) The ruling JMM and the opposition BJP on Tuesday hailed the Padma Bhushan award conferred on Dishom Guru Shibu Soren, terming it a proud moment for Jharkhand and the nation.
JMM founder Shibu Soren was awarded the Padma Bhushan posthumously in the field of public affairs by President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday.
Rupi Soren, wife of Shibu Soren, received the Padma Bhushan on behalf of the late leader.
“Conferring the Padma Bhushan award on Dishom Guru Shibu Soren is an honour to the people of Jharkhand, the tribal community, and the struggles of millions associated with the separate statehood movement,” JMM general secretary Vinod Kumar Pandey said in a statement.
Jharkhand Assembly Speaker and senior JMM leader Rabindra Nath Mahato said, “This honour is a historic recognition of Guruji’s sacrifice and dedication. It is a moment of great pride for Jharkhand. Guruji’s life is a shining example of simplicity, struggle, and inspiration.” He said Guruji’s journey from a revolutionary to chief minister is a living saga of public faith and mass movement.
“Guruji’s contribution to the creation of a separate Jharkhand state and in securing the rights of its people is indelible in history. His struggle and leadership will continue to inspire generations to come,” said Mahato Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth said that ‘Dishom Guru’ Shibu Soren—a towering figure of Jharkhand—has always inspired everyone to shun substance abuse and take up farming.
“He always motivated every section of society towards education and self-reliance. Guru Ji’s struggle-filled life inspires us to stand against every tyranny and injustice. Honouring such a great soul, dedicated to public service, with the Padma Bhushan posthumously by the Honourable President Droupadi Murmu Ji is a matter of pride for every Jharkhand resident,” Seth posted on X.
Jharkhand BJP chief Aditya Sahu said, “Honouring Shibu Soren, a pioneer of the Jharkhand movement, the voice of the tribal society, people’s leader and Dishom Guru, is a matter of great pride and honour for all the people of Jharkhand.” Born on January 11, 1944, in Ramgarh district’s Nemra village, Soren, popularly known as ‘Dishom Guru’ (leader of the land), is one of the most enduring political figures in the country’s tribal and regional political landscape.
