Ranchi, Aug 6 (PTI) The Election Commission of (EC) will issue notices to 63.24 lakh voters in Jharkhand for hearings as part of the ongoing SIR of electoral rolls, a senior official said on Thursday.
Of them, 45.55 lakh voters will be called for hearings over various “logical discrepancies” detected in the draft electoral rolls published on Wednesday, Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar said.
“As many as 63,24,116 voters across various categories will be served notices. They will have to appear for hearing with required documents,” Kumar told PTI.
According to a release issued by the CEO’s office, the notices will be served to 14,03,205 unmapped voters, 45,55,227 voters with “logical discrepancies” and 3,65,684 voters with “demographic similar entries”.
Kumar said the Commission had identified 15 categories of logical discrepancies.
These include inconsistencies in progeny linking with the 2003 electoral rolls, such as mismatch in the parent’s name and cases where the age difference between a voter and the parent is less than 15 years or more than 50 years.
The EC published the draft electoral rolls on Wednesday after deleting over 43.61 lakh names.
The state had 2.64 crore electors before the SIR enumeration exercise began.
Following the enumeration exercise, the draft electoral rolls contain 2.21 crore voters, including 1.12 crore men, 1.08 crore women and 260 third-gender electors, Kumar said.
The enumeration exercise was conducted between June 30 and July 29, during which booth-level officers (BLOs) carried out door-to-door visits to distribute, collect and verify enumeration forms.
Of the 43.61 lakh voters removed from the draft electoral rolls, around 7.63 lakh died, 15.92 lakh permanently shifted, 14.50 lakh were untraceable or remained absent during the exercise and 4.38 lakh names were found registered as voters in multiple places.
In addition, around 1.16 lakh voters refused to sign the enumeration forms or did not return them to the BLOs during the exercise.
The CEO said, “An eligible elector, whose name existed in the 2026 electoral rolls but failed to submit the enumeration form, can still be added to the electoral rolls during the claims and objection period from August 5 to September 4 by submitting Form-6 along with a declaration form.” The notice phase for hearing and verification will conclude on October 3.
