Hazaribag, Sep 2 (PTI) Eight members of an interstate gang involved in 63 cases of chain-snatching and theft in five districts of Jharkhand have been arrested in separate operations here and Bihar, police said on Wednesday.
Four of the accused, travelling on two stolen motorcycles, were intercepted during a vehicle-checking drive near Hazaribag Lake and arrested, while the fifth member of their gang was arrested from a village in Bihar, an official said.
Based on information provided by them during interrogation, three brothers running a motorcycle garage in Chouparan were arrested during a raid, he said.
“We arrested eight members of the gang on Tuesday during separate operations. Police recovered about 27 grams of gold jewellery worth over Rs 4 lakh, four stolen motorcycles, six fake number plates and as many mobile phones,” Hazaribag Superintendent of Police Aman Kumar Singh said.
Sadar SDPO Rupak Kumar Singh said, “During interrogation, they told investigators that so far the gang has been involved in more than 100 incidents of chain-snatching and theft in Bihar and Jharkhand.
Of the 63 registered cases, 47 have been registered in Hazaribag, 10 in Chatra, and two each in Ranchi, Ramgarh and Giridih districts, he said. PTI RPS RPS NSD
