Chaibasa (Jharkhand), Oct 25 (PTI) A man was arrested for allegedly killing his wife and burying her body inside his house in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district, a police officer said on Sunday.

The incident came to light after villagers informed the couple’s daughter about the mysterious disappearance of her mother, identified as Gurubari Hansda, over the past few days.

The daughter, Nagishri Gagrai, reached her home in Tungi village within Pandrashali police outpost limits but could not find her mother.

Suspecting foul play, she lodged a complaint against her father, Ram Hansda, accusing him of killing her mother with an axe and concealing her body.

A police team led by IPS officer Raj Kumar Jairaju reached the spot and took Ram into custody for interrogation on Saturday.

Based on information provided by the accused, police exhumed Gurubari’s body from a room inside the house, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Chaibasa Sadar) Bahaman Tuti said.

A forensic team from Ranchi seized the axe used in the crime and blood-stained soil for examination.

During interrogation, Ram told police that an altercation broke out between the couple on the night of October 17 after his wife allegedly did not prepare food. In a fit of rage, he allegedly killed her with an axe and buried the body inside a room to conceal the evidence, the officer said. PTI BS MNB

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
