Ranchi, Sep 14 (PTI) A 25-year-old man was allegedly abducted in Jharkhand’s Ranchi over a brawl at a bar here four months ago, police said.

Police arrested four persons and rescued the man, a senior officer said.

The incident took place around 12:10 am within Argora police station limits when Harsh Kumar was returning home in his car from a birthday party in Lalpur area.

Kumar was abducted near the Kartik Oraon Chowk, after the accused arrived in an SUV, forcibly took him into the vehicle and fled, they said.

“Acting on a tip-off, we rescued the victim from a deserted place in the Nagri police station area and subsequently arrested all the four accused – aged between 20 and 25 years,” Ranchi City SP Paras Rana said.

During interrogation, the accused told investigators that they abducted the man to take revenge for a brawl that took place at the bar in Lalpur area four months ago, Rana said.

Police impounded the SUV, seized cash from the vehicle and a stamp paper on which the victim was allegedly forced to sign, he said.

One of the accused has criminal antecedents, and a case of extortion is registered against him in Lohardaga, another police officer said. PTI RPS RPS RBT

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
