Ramgarh (Jharkhand), Jul 13 (PTI) The Ramgarh Police on Monday said it has arrested the main accused behind a jewellery shop loot at Chitarpura area in Rajrappa on April 21.

SP Mukesh Kumar Lunayat said the accused has over 29 criminal cases across multiple districts in Jharkhand.

He was apprehended late on Sunday during a raid by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), Lunayat said.

“We also seized a pistol, two magazines and ammunition along with the looted items,” the SP said.

Five miscreants had looted ornaments from the jewellery shop in Ramgarh district on April 21. Of the five, two were caught by locals while they were trying to flee, police said.

In May, police had seized 134 pieces of gold and silver jewellery buried underground during another raid, and the wife and son-in-law of the prime accused were arrested on charges of hiding the looted items.

Soon after the incident in April, police had arrested seven members of a gang across various locations including Palamu, Ramgarh and Harnaut in Nalanda district of neighbouring Bihar.

Further investigation is underway. PTI ANB RBT
