Ranchi, Jul 4 (PTI) The Jharkhand government has initiated steps to facilitate the return of a migrant worker from Giridih district who is stranded in Dubai after allegedly losing his passport and his job, an official said on Saturday.

Shikha Lakra, team leader at the state migrant control room, said the authorities have sought the worker’s details from his family and will coordinate with the Indian Embassy in Dubai to arrange his return.

“We have asked the family members to send us the details. Once we receive them, we will get in touch with the Indian Embassy in Dubai to facilitate his return,” Lakra told PTI.

The worker, identified as Lalchand Mahato, a resident of Tirla village under Bagodar police station in Giridih district, had travelled to Dubai for work and was employed as a carpenter, social worker Sikander Ali said.

According to Ali, Mahato allegedly lost his passport, following which he lost his job and has since been stranded in the UAE without the necessary documents to return home.

Ali said Mahato’s wife approached him seeking help, claiming that the family was facing severe financial hardship. PTI ANB SOM

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
