Panna (MP), Oct 13 (PTI) Gold and silver jewellery items belonging to half a dozen women were allegedly stolen during the Hindu Ekta Yatra organised by Bageshwar Dham, a Hindu organisation, police said on Tuesday.

The incidents of theft were reported on Monday during Hindu Ekta Rath Yatra led by Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, an official said.

“Complaints of gold and silver jewellery being stolen from about half a dozen people during the yatra have been received. The participants of the procession have caught two suspicious women and handed them over to the police,” Superintendent of Police Nivedita Naidu told reporters.

Investigation into the incidents is underway, she said.

Suspecting the involvement of an inter-state gang, she said the police are interrogating the suspected women and investigating their possible involvement.

“After the investigation is complete, the facts surrounding the incident and the role of the accused will become clear. At present, no official confirmation of anyone’s involvement in the case has been made,” Naidu said.

Dhirendra Shastri’s five-day Hindu Ekta Rath Yatra began on October 11 from Bageshwar Dham, and will cover approximately 500 km via Panna’s Hata, Damoh, Sagar, and Tikamgarh, reaching Chhatarpur on October 15. PTI BNS MAS NP

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
