Jammu, Oct 11 (PTI) Prompt action by a railway employee helped save the life of a passenger who suffered a cardiac arrest after deboarding the Jhelum Express at Jammu Tawi Railway Station on Sunday, an official said.

The passenger collapsed on the platform after getting off the train, drawing the attention of on-duty railway staff member Bablu Kumar, an Assistant AC in the Electrical Department, a Northern Railway spokesperson said.

Kumar immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to the passenger, helping improve his condition and providing relief, the spokesperson said.

He then comforted the passenger and promptly called an ambulance for further treatment.

With the assistance of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), the passenger was shifted to a hospital by ambulance, the spokesperson added.

Lauding the railway employee’s prompt response, Jammu Divisional Railway Manager Vivek Kumar said his presence of mind, knowledge of first aid and timely intervention helped save the passenger’s life.

“His act is an inspiration for all railway personnel,” he said. PTI TAS SMV SHS

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
