Jalna, Aug 22 (PTI) The police in Maharashtra’s Jalna district have arrested a 50-year-old man who had been on the run in connection with a cryptocurrency investment fraud worth over Rs 4.3 crore, an official said on Saturday.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Thursday traced the accused, Amod Mehetar, to the Talsande area of Kolhapur district, where he disguised his identity and rented a student accommodation near a local college, the official said.

According to the EOW, Mehetkar and his associates allegedly lured investors by promising high returns in cryptocurrency investments, collected Rs 4.3 crore and subsequently cheated them.

A case was registered at Jalna tehsil police station on October 18, 2025, against Mehetar and five others.

Mehetar was produced before a local court, which remanded him to a six-day police custody, the official said, adding that efforts are underway to trace five other accused who are still absconding. PTI COR ARU

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
