Jabalpur, Jun 27 (PTI) Three friends, including two minors, drowned while bathing in the Narmada river here on Saturday afternoon, police said.
The trio were residents of Mujawar Mohalla under the Garha police station limits and had gone to bathe at Dadda Ghat around 3 pm without informing their families, said Tilwara Station House Officer (SHO) Brijesh Mishra.
He identified the deceased as Sheikh Sahil (19), Moin Khan (16), and Sheikh Ashik (15).
A water supply plant is located at Dadda Ghat and the river is quite deep near the spot, he said.
While bathing, one of the teenagers ventured near the plant and began to drown. The other two tried to rescue him but they too drowned, Mishra said.
People present near the ghat tried to rescue them but were unsuccessful.
Police initiated a search operation with the help of local divers, and the bodies were recovered after two hours of intense efforts, the official said.
A case of unnatural deaths was registered and the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, he said. PTI COR BNS MAS KRK
