Jammu, Oct 16 (PTI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday searched the residential premises of two mining officials and private persons following the registration of a case over alleged illegal mineral extraction, overcharging and manipulation of e-challans in Jammu and Kashmir.

The ACB registered the case in Udhampur against Assistant Mining Engineer Rajeev Jammu and District Mining Officer of Reasi Rameshwar Sangra, along with Swaran Singh Rathore and other private persons under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and other applicable laws, they said.

The allegations include illegal extraction of minerals beyond permissible limits and lease validity, charging rates above government-notified prices, misuse of e-challans and operation of stone crushers without valid Consent to Operate (CTO).

The probe conducted by ACB has also revealed the alleged involvement of public servants in facilitating these activities in connivance with private operators, the officials said.

Searches have been initiated at the residential and commercial premises of the accused, while further investigation into the alleged illegal mining, overcharging and loss to the government exchequer is underway. PTI AB RHL

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
