Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 13 (PTI) Keralam BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Sunday alleged that Congress-ally IUML and the Jamaat-e-Islami are unconcerned about the state’s economy as they get funds from Gulf remittance.
This is the reason why they oppose central initiatives like the PM SHRI, Chandrasekhar, the MLA from Nemom constituency claimed.
He further claimed that leaders of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), a key constituent of the ruling UDF in the state, and the Jamaat-e-Islami do not consider the economic development of Keralam a priority.
“The personal fortunes of leaders of IUML and Jamaat-e-Islami have no connection to Keralam’s fiscal health. For them, Keralam’s economic development is not a necessity.
“They have zero stake in the state’s economy. Their economic lifeline is the Gulf remittance economy. Whether the state stagnates, whether prices rise, or whether jobs are created – none of this matters to them. That is why they oppose national initiatives and central projects like PM SHRI,” he claimed in an ‘X’ post.
He made similar allegations in a Facebook post also.
The Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme was introduced by the Centre to upgrade selected government schools into model institutions.
The previous LDF government had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Centre to implement the scheme but later kept its implementation in abeyance following protests from the UDF and sections within the LDF.
After assuming office, the UDF government constituted a sub-committee to examine the issue.
The UDF government has made it clear the scheme will have to be implemented as the previous LDF administration signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to do so.
It, however, said that where it will be implemented and what the curriculum should be will be decided by the state government for which the sub-committee has been constituted. PTI HMP KH
