New Delhi: Actor Amitabh Bachchan Thursday took to Twitter to rubbish a news report of him testing negative for Covid-19.

The report was published quoting sources at the Nanavati Hospital.

Amitabh had, on 11 July, announced that he has tested positive for the novel coronavirus and was admitted to the Nanavati Hospital. His wife, actor Jaya Bachchan, tested negative.

In less than an hour, his son, actor Abhishek Backchan, tweeted saying he too has tested positive for Covid-19. He added that the father-son duo had mild symptoms.

On 12 July, Abhishek took to Twitter again to announce that his wife, actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and daughter Aaradhya have also tested positive for the virus.

Jalsa, the family’s residence, as well as three other bungalows owned by the Bachchan’s were sealed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Thirty staff members were also tested for the infection.

Blog & Instagram posts, tweets by Amitabh

Amitabh has maintained his social media presence while being at the hospital, including  thanking his fans and medical staff for their services.

“In happy times, in times of illness, you our near and dear, our well wishers, our fans have ever given us unstinting love, affection, care and prayer…we express our bountiful gracious gratitude to you all…in these circumstances hospital protocol, restrictive ! (sic),” he wrote in one such tweet.

In his official blog post on 22 July, the actor wrote about “destiny” and “confinement”.

“Confines have a destiny… this confine of mine has one too… what it shall eventually be, destiny shall find decision… there may be wishes and hope and expectation… but the destined has ever overcome obstacles of existence…it shall God willing for this too… many may wish to replace the Almighty and shield themselves in their own vanity. Good… good to possess the strength of this,” reads an excerpt from Amitabh’s post.

The veteran actor had recently dedicated a poem written by his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan to healthcare workers.

“Words from Babuji .. for them that work tirelessly, relentlessly , unselfishly to keep us protected,” he wrote on his Instagram post on the poem.

Words from Babuji .. for them that work tirelessly, relentlessly , unselfishly to keep us protected : मैं हूँ उनके साथ, खड़ी जो सीधी रखते अपनी रीढ़। कभी नहीं जो तज सकते हैं
अपना न्यायोचित अधिकार,
 कभी नहीं जो सह सकते हैं
शीश नवाकर अत्याचार,
 एक अकेले हों या उनके
साथ खड़ी हो भारी भीड़;
 मैं हूँ उनके साथ, खड़ी जो सीधी रखते अपनी रीढ़। ~ HRB

  1. Frankly, you could have done this story in two paragraphs. One, so tabu Bachchan has Deb ed a report in Times Now that has tested negative. Two, just give his tweet.
But no, stories like this must paraphrase, then quote, then give screen shot for illustration. Then to show re up a non-story, give paraphrase, quote and screenshot of supporting tweets. Then paraphrase, quote and screenshots of older, nostalgic Bachchan tweets and quotes from blogs.
THIS, MY FRIENDS, IS THE CURSE OF 21st CENTURY SOCIAL MEDIA BASED EFFING JOURNALISM. And it is the most basic ring kind to read.
