After a highly successful return from a hiatus in 2022, the Centre for Law and Policy Research, Bengaluru is back with the 7th edition of ConQuest – India’s premier national quiz focusing on the Indian Constitution, history, and politics. Last year, CLPR successfully organised ConQuest after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. With a high turnout seen last year, it was evident that given the appropriate forums and platforms, students are eager to delve into topics concerning India’s constitutional values.

ConQuest 2023 is organised by the Constitution Culture team at CLPR, committed to create a vibrant constitutional culture with the help of digital public goods and building civic education initiatives. The quiz builds on and serves as the flagship public outreach initiative of constitutionofindia.net – the world’s most accessed digital archive of Indian constitutional and political materials, along with commentary and analysis on contemporary affairs. ConQuest’s highly rigorous and exciting quiz format brings India’s constitutional heritage to life for students across the country.

Bachelor’s and Master’s students from all disciplines can participate in ConQuest 2023. Regional rounds for the quiz will take place in October in Kolkata, Pune, New Delhi, and Bengaluru. The winning teams from the regional rounds will compete at the National Finals for the title of ConQuest Champions 2023.

ConQuest 2023 Theme: Artificial Intelligence

This year’s edition of ConQuest will feature a significant number of questions on a topic that has gained increasing attention worldwide – Artificial Intelligence. In recent months, the rapid advancement of AI technologies has profoundly impacted various aspects of society, spanning both public and private spheres. This technological wave has ushered in remarkable changes but has also raised mounting concerns about its potential to disrupt individuals and communities alike.

AI possesses the capacity to either reinforce or undermine our Constitution’s aspiration to dismantle economic, social, and political hierarchies. It is imperative that we carefully grasp the implications of AI on the relationships between citizens and the State, as well as among communities.

The rampant proliferation of AI-generated fake news and distorted historical narratives present a significant challenge. While misinformation and historical distortions predated AI, its sophisticated and nearly instantaneous capabilities amplify these issues. This situation compels us to contemplate the far-reaching implications for our constitutional identities and our connection with our constitutional heritage.

Striking a balance between the transformative potential of AI and the preservation of constitutional values calls for meticulous consideration and proactive measures. Perhaps it is time for us to revisit foundational principles, clarifying our notions and intuitions of core political concepts such as democracy, freedom, and equality. Such an approach could provide the most effective means of navigating the potential risks and benefits of an AI-dominated landscape. These themes and issues will form a significant part of ConQuest 2023.
