New Delhi: Based on intelligence from the Sri Lankan Navy, the Indian Navy conducted a coordinated operation in the Arabian Sea, resulting in the seizure of approximately 500 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine from two Sri Lankan fishing vessels.

The operation, which took place on 24 and 25 November 2024, was initiated based on intelligence from the Sri Lankan Navy regarding suspected narcotics smuggling activities.

The Indian Navy deployed a ship, long-range maritime patrol aircraft, and remotely piloted aircraft to locate and intercept the vessels.

The operation was closely coordinated between the ship and the aerial assets, resulting in the successful boarding of both boats. The Indian Navy’s efforts were augmented by a ship deployed from the Information Fusion Centre (Indian Ocean Region), Gurugram.

A second Indian Naval ship was also deployed to bolster the anti-narcotics operation. The two boats, their crew, and the seized narcotics are being transferred to Sri Lankan authorities for further legal proceedings.
