New Delhi: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hindalco Industries for the manufacturing and supply of marine-grade aluminium to the country’s public and private shipyards for the construction of ships, a PIB press release stated.

As per the agreement, the ICG will provide quarterly pricing, priority in supplies, and turnover discount to the private sector companies. The ICG fleet consists of 67 ships with aluminium hull construction and is planning to add more such vessels in the near future.

The marine-grade aluminium will be used for the construction of the ships that will be operating in shallow waters.

Deputy Director General (Materiel & Maintenance), ICG IG HK Sharma, and CEO, Downstream Aluminum Business, Hindalco Nilesh Koul signed the agreement in the presence of senior officials of the ICG.
