New Delhi: A contingent of 76 soldiers from the Indian Army has departed for Thailand to take part in the 13th edition of the India-Thailand joint military exercise, MAITREE. The exercise will run from July 1 to 15, 2024, at Fort Vachiraprakan in Tak Province of Thailand.

According to the Press Information Bureau, the Indian Army contingent is mainly composed of a battalion of the LADAKH SCOUTS, with personnel from other arms and services, while the Royal Thailand Army contingent also comprises 76 soldiers, mostly from 1 Battalion, 14 Infantry Regiment of 4 Division.

The exercise, which is aimed at promoting military cooperation between India and Thailand, will focus on high-degree physical fitness, joint planning, and joint tactical drills.

The tactical drills will include the creation of a joint operation centre, establishment of an intelligence and surveillance centre, employment of drones and counter drone systems, securing of a landing site, small team insertion and extraction, special heliborne operations, cordon and search operations, room intervention drills, and demolition of illegal structures.

The MAITREE exercise will enable both the countries to share their best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures for conducting joint operations. The exercise will also facilitate interoperability, bonhomie, and camaraderie between soldiers of both the countries.
