New Delhi, Oct 12 (PTI) India will host the first BIMSTEC Home Ministers’ Meeting here on Tuesday, where issues related to terrorism, transnational organised crime, narcotics radicalisation, trafficking, illicit financial flows, and cyber threats will be discussed, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Monday.

“India is honoured to host the first BIMSTEC Home Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi on 13 October 2026. I extend a warm welcome to the Hon’ble Home Ministers and member state delegations,” he said on X.

Shah said the historic meeting underscores the shared resolve of the BIMSTEC to combat terrorism, transnational organised crime, narcotics radicalisation, trafficking, illicit financial flows, and cyber threats.

“Through decisive coordination, we remain committed to building a safer, stronger, and more secure BIMSTEC region,” he said.

The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is a regional grouping comprising Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

It aims to promote economic and technical cooperation among countries bordering the Bay of Bengal and in its neighbourhood.

Bangladesh Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed will skip the two-day meeting, with a delegation led by Home Affairs Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury to participate in his place.

Nepal Home Minister Sudhan Gurung told reporters before leaving for the meeting that Nepal will raise issues such as reducing risks associated with natural disasters in the Himalayan region triggered by climate change, strengthening early warning systems and promoting regional cooperation for coordinated rescue and relief operations. Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
