New Delhi: The seventh round of negotiations for the India-Peru Trade Agreement ended Thursday in New Delhi on April 8, a PIB press release stated.

The negotiations will cover areas such as trade in goods and services, movement of natural persons, rules of origin, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, and trade remedies.

The two sides will also discuss the general and security exceptions, dispute settlement, and cooperation. According to experts, the signing of the trade agreement will boost the economic cooperation between the two countries. The trade agreement is also expected to create new opportunities for investment and job creation in various sectors. The history of diplomatic relations between India and Peru dates back to the 1960s.

The two countries have also held bilateral talks in connection with the establishment of a joint working group on trade and investment. The current round of negotiations has been agreed upon at the highest level, i.e. at the joint level. This will also ensure that the agreement is acceptable to both the countries. The government officials of India and Peru have expressed their commitment to finding a solution to the outstanding issues and resuming the negotiations. The next round of negotiations is expected to take place in June 2024.
