Nanded, Sep 28 (PTI) BJP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Chavan asked party workers to stay calm for the time being and endure criticism from the public over certain talukas not being included in the list of those declared drought-hit by the Maharashtra government.
An audio clip of his conversation with a worker, angry over the exclusion of Mudkhed and Mukhed talukas in Nanded, went viral on Monday.
In the clip, the worker can be heard telling Chavan there is public anger over such exclusions, adding that “people are abusing us and we cannot show our faces”.
When the worker insists on Chavan giving a reason for the exclusion, the former Maharashtra chief minister advised him to “have faith”.
Asserting that he fully understood the situation, Chavan said, “Wait a little. Stay calm. Take the abuse; there is no problem. Take the abuse for a couple of days, there is no problem.”
The state government on Saturday declared drought in 265 of its 358 talukas, or 74 per cent of the state, amid rainfall deficit and announced various relief measures, including crop loan restructuring, land revenue concessions, and power bill subsidies. PTI COR BNM
