Itanagar, Jul 30 (PTI) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in parts of Arunachal Pradesh from July 31.

It also issued a flash flood alert for nine districts and advised authorities to remain on high alert.

According to the IMD’s impact-based weather forecast, very heavy rainfall (12-20 cm in 24 hours) is likely at isolated places in Papum Pare district on Friday (July 31) and is expected to continue till Saturday.

Heavy rainfall (6-11 cm in 24 hours) has also been forecast at isolated places in Lower Subansiri district during the same period.

The weather office said thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely over the affected districts and urged district administrations to take necessary precautionary measures to minimise the impact of the adverse weather.

The IMD has also warned of a low to moderate flash flood risk on Friday for Tawang, West Kameng, East Kameng, Kurung Kumey, Upper Subansiri, Anjaw, Dibang Valley, Tirap and Changlang districts.

The alert said heavy rainfall could trigger surface runoff and inundation in fully saturated soils and low-lying areas in these districts over the next 24 hours.

The weather department has advised the concerned district authorities to closely monitor the evolving weather situation and take appropriate preparedness measures to deal with any rain-related emergencies.

The ongoing spell of floods and landslides has so far claimed seven lives and affected 1,53,553 people across the northeastern state.

The monsoon has affected 373 circles and 668 villages in 27 districts of the state so far. PTI UPL UPL RG

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
