Lucknow, Jul 18 (PTI) Large parts of Uttar Pradesh are likely to receive widespread rain over the next 24 hours, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday forecasting rain or thundershowers at most places across the state.
The IMD has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in West Uttar Pradesh and heavy rain at a few places, with very heavy rainfall at isolated locations in East Uttar Pradesh.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also very likely at a few places across the state, according to the IMD.
For Lucknow and adjoining areas, the weather office has forecast an overcast sky with intermittent rain and thundershowers on Sunday, with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to settle around 29 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively.
It has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and heavy rain at isolated places.
The wet spell comes as parts of western Uttar Pradesh saw a swell in river water. A warning was issued in Gautam Buddh Nagar district with the Hindon river at Noida flowing above the danger mark, according to the Central Water Commission (CWC).
In its bulletin issued at 6.52 pm, the CWC said the river was flowing at 196.16 metres at 6 pm, which was 0.16 metres above the danger level of 196.0 metres.
The water level was rising at the rate of 40.01 mm per hour and remained 1.12 metres below the highest flood level of 197.28 metres recorded on July 26, 2023. The report indicated that the river level was between the danger mark and the highest flood level.
In Lucknow, the maximum temperature on Saturday settled at 31.4 degrees Celsius, 2.5 notches below normal, while the minimum was recorded at 27.9 degrees Celsius, 1.8 notches above normal. The city recorded a trace of rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm.
Among major stations in the state, Banda received the highest rainfall of 70.8 mm, followed by Hamirpur (45 mm), Ghazipur (41.6 mm), Churk in Sonbhadra (29.4 mm), Jhansi (9.8 mm), Barabanki (9 mm), Ballia (6.1 mm), Bareilly (5.4 mm), Orai (4.2 mm), Shahjahanpur (2 mm), Prayagraj (1.6 mm), Fursatganj (0.8 mm), Gorakhpur and Moradabad (0.4 mm each), Bahraich (0.2 mm), while several other places, including Kanpur, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Agra, Ayodhya, Sultanpur and Basti, reported no rainfall during the observation period.
Day temperatures remained below normal at many places due to the prevailing monsoon conditions, although parts of Bundelkhand continued to record highs above 38 degrees Celsius. PTI CDN MPL MPL
