Meerut (UP), Sep 12 (PTI) Authorities on Saturday demolished alleged illegal constructions at the houses of three men accused of murdering a 24-year-old man in Hastinapur, police said.
Nitin, a resident of Manganagar village under Bahsuma police station, was shot dead on Friday afternoon near Hastinapur police station.
Police said six assailants riding two motorcycles attacked him and one of the bullets hit his leg. He suffered heavy blood loss and died.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Abhijeet Kumar told PTI that the alleged illegal constructions at the houses of three accused — Utsav Yadav, Mitthu and Goldie — were demolished during the action. A heavy police force was deployed in the area.
Following the murder, Nitin’s family initially refused to allow his body to be taken for post-mortem. After police officials spent the night trying to persuade them, around 500 people gathered at Ganeshpur Tiraha around 7 am on Saturday and blocked the road, placing Nitin’s body there.
The protesters demanded bulldozer action against the accused and strict punishment, and said they would not lift the blockade until stringent action was taken against those responsible.
Hastinapur MLA and Minister of State Dinesh Khatik reached the spot and appealed to the protesters and family members to end the demonstration, assuring them that strict action would be taken against the accused.
Circle Officer (Mawana) Pankaj Lavania said Nitin’s last rites were being performed and the situation was peaceful.
Nitin was preparing for recruitment in the Delhi Police. According to his family, he had cleared the written examination and was scheduled to appear for the physical efficiency test on October 3. He had married around four months ago.
Family members of the accused allegedly fled after locking their houses. The houses were also found locked during Saturday’s demolition drive.
