Gorakhpur (UP), Sep 12 (PTI) An IIT-educated engineer was found dead at his flat in Sahara Estate here after neighbours alerted police about a foul smell emanating from the apartment, officials said.
The body of 45-year-old Abhishek Tripathi, who lived alone, was recovered from Malhar Apartment on Friday morning. The police broke open the door after repeated attempts to contact him failed.
The body appeared to be three to four days old, officials said. A post-mortem examination could not immediately establish the cause of death.
Circle Officer (CO) of the area Kirti Nidhi Anand said the flat was locked from inside and the exact cause of death was yet to be ascertained.
“The room was found in disarray. The mobile phone is locked and efforts are underway to access it. Further investigation is in progress,” Anand said.
According to family members, Tripathi had studied at IIT and worked for a multinational company in Noida. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he shifted to Gorakhpur while working from home. He lost his job a few years ago and had since been undergoing treatment for mental health issues in Lucknow.
His younger brother Ambreesh, an IT professional based in the United States, financially supported him and is travelling to Gorakhpur for the last rites.
Neighbours said Tripathi had become increasingly isolated and had not been seen for several days. PTI COR CDN MNK MNK
