Hamirpur (HP), Oct 26 (PTI) Two men were arrested for allegedly stealing their seized motorcycle from a police outpost in Himachal’s Hamirpur district, officials said on Monday.

According to the police, the incident took place around 1.30 am on Sunday when two youths entered the outpost premises and fled with the motorcycle. Upon discovering the incident on Monday morning, the police examined CCTV footage and, following an investigation, arrested both suspects, they said.

An FIR has been registered against both suspects, who will be presented in court on Monday. Efforts to recover the stolen motorcycle are currently underway, they said.

The police arrested Dinesh and Pramod, both natives of Uttar Pradesh, who work as labourers in Patta area, they said, adding that the stolen vehicle has not yet been recovered.

On October 21, police seized Dinesh’s motorcycle in Patta after Pramod, who was driving the vehicle, allegedly failed to produce the required documentation. Following this, the police team parked the vehicle at the police station.

They subsequently stole this seized vehicle from the outpost premises, the police said.

Upon finding the motorcycle missing from the premises in the morning, the police launched an investigation. They reviewed CCTV footage and launched a search for the suspects.

During the probe, the police learned that both youths had switched off their mobile phones and had failed to show up for work. Following further investigation, both individuals were arrested in Patta.

Hamirpur SP Balbir Singh Thakur said that both suspects had been arrested and that the theft of a seized vehicle from within a police outpost has raised questions regarding security arrangements. PTI COR BPL SHS
