Shimla, May 3 (PTI) Facing rebellion in the ongoing local body elections, Himachal BJP president Rajiv Bindal on Sunday set up a disciplinary committee and warned of stern action against BJP members defying the party directives.

The disciplinary committee comprises MP and BJP general secretary Sikender Kumar, MLA and the party’s state vice president Vipin Singh Parmar, Bihari Lal Sharma, former Rajya Sabha MP Indu Goswami and MLA Balbir Verma.

The panel would monitor the elections and ensure strict adherence of disciplinary norms, Bindal said.

Asserting that the BJP is a disciplined and ideology-driven organisation, Bindal said that any deviation from the stated party line would be construed as ‘indiscipline’, attracting strict action, a statement issued here said.

“Whether it is the distribution of tickets, campaigning or abiding by organisational elections, any sort of dissent or violation would be considered indiscipline and strict action would be taken,” he warned.

Rebel candidates have entered the fray in Solan and Dharamshala. Elections to municipal corporations are held on party symbols, while polls for other local bodies like gram panchayat, panchayat samiti, zila parishad, municipal committee and council are not held on party symbols.

Urging the party members to uphold organisational values and work with a spirit of collective leadership, Bindal said, “Our objective is not only to win elections, but also to maintain the strength, unity and discipline of the organisation.” Claiming that the BJP was fully prepared to contest the upcoming elections, he said that the disciplinary norms would be applicable to all and no person acting against the interests of the party would be spared.
