Shimla, May 12 (PTI) Ahead of the Solan Municipal Corporation elections, state BJP president Rajeev Bindal launched a scathing attack on the Congress, claiming that despite being in power, the party failed to provide basic amenities like drinking water, cleanliness and parking.
Releasing the BJP’s ‘sankalp patra (resolution letter), Bindal said it is not merely a document of promises but a comprehensive roadmap for Solan’s development.
Elections for the Solan Municipal Corporation would be held on May 17.
Bindal further criticised the Congress government for failing to fulfil the promises made in the 2021 municipal corporation elections.
He said Congress promised an affordable and regular drinking water supply to every household, but residents were forced to wait days or even weeks for water, which he said was often dirty and unfit for drinking.
He further said Congress had promised free garbage collection services in its earlier manifesto, instead, garbage charges were increased, and the city has turned into a dumping ground.
“The sanitation system has completely collapsed, and people are facing severe inconvenience,” Bindal said.
He added that Congress had also promised parking facilities, transport hubs, parks and development in all wards, but these promises remain unfulfilled.
Bindal said Congress was again trying to mislead the people with another manifesto filled with false promises.
He said Congress must first explain what happened to its 2021 manifesto and give an account of how many promises were actually fulfilled.
BJP has, in its manifesto, resolved to transform Solan into the cleanest, safest, greenest and smartest city in Himachal Pradesh.
The party has also promised modern door-to-door garbage collection systems in every ward, the establishment of a scientific waste management plant, digital monitoring of sanitation services and an increase in the number of sanitation workers.
Bindal said the BJP will ensure a clean and adequate drinking water supply to every household, regular and time-bound water distribution, and implement a special action plan to prevent leakages.
“Dedicated water tanks will be developed in every ward, and the sewerage network in the city will be expanded and modernised,” he added.
The BJP leader said the party will prioritise constructing multi-level parking facilities in key areas of the city and two-wheeler parking in busy markets and crowded zones, besides creating a special cell to address issues faced by local traders.
Speaking on the growing drug menace, Bindal said the BJP will launch a strong campaign against “chitta” and other narcotics.
“Awareness drives will be conducted in schools and colleges, and strict action will be taken against drug mafias with the cooperation of police and society,” he said.
He said the BJP will work for the welfare of senior citizens, women and differently-abled citizens by creating better public facilities and seating arrangements at public places and pedestrian routes.
“Municipal services will also be fully digitised to ensure the timely delivery of birth and death certificates, NOCs and other civic services,” he said.
Bindal said the BJP believes in politics of development, transparency and public service. He expressed confidence that the people of Solan will support the BJP in the upcoming municipal corporation elections and pave the way for good governance and rapid development. PTI BPL KSI KSI
