Burhanpur, May 6 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday took a swipe at Mamata Banerjee over her refusal to resign as West Bengal Chief Minister despite her party Trinamool Congress (TMC) losing the just-concluded assembly elections.

Yadav used a Hindi proverb to drive home his point.

“Rassi jal gayi, lekin bal nahi gaya (the rope is burnt, but its twist didn’t go away)…Despite such a crushing defeat in the elections, Banerjee is saying she won’t resign from the chief minister’s post,” the MP CM said.

“Why does Mamata Banerjee behave so ruthlessly? People have taken revenge for this (in the West Bengal assembly elections),” he added.

Yadav said that leaders who promote “anti-national elements” will meet the same fate.

The CM also celebrated the BJP’s victory in the West Bengal elections by having ‘jhalmuri’ (spicy puffed rice) with party leaders.

During an interaction with industrialists in Burhanpur, he announced plans to organise an industrial investment conference in the Nimar region and develop Sukhpuri as an industrial area.

Yadav said the State Traders Welfare Board would be expanded to the district level.

He also said the state government would promote crops like banana and cotton in Burhanpur.

The BJP sealed a landslide victory with 207 seats in the 294-member assembly, ending the TMC’s uninterrupted 15-year rule. Banerjee dismissed the outcome as “engineered” and asserted that her party was fighting the Election Commission, not the BJP. The TMC could only manage 80 seats.

Alleging that the poll verdict was “not a people’s mandate but a conspiracy”, Banerjee on Tuesday refused to resign as chief minister. PTI COR HWP MAS NP
