Guwahati, Jul 26 (PTI) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday offered homage to war heroes on the 27th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, which marks India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1999 conflict.
“Some victories are measured in territory reclaimed. Kargil was measured in courage, sacrifice and love for the nation,” Sarma said in a post on X.
“As India marks 27 years of #KargilVijayDiwas, we bow to the brave soldiers who faced impossible odds, defended Maa Bharti’s honour and made the ultimate sacrifice so that the Tricolour would always fly high,” he added.
The occasion marks the victory in 1999 when Indian soldiers, braving snow-clad peaks and relentless firing by Pakistani troops, reclaimed the heights of Kargil.
Operation Vijay was the name given to India’s limited war after the neighbouring country’s infiltration.
