Shimla, Sep 1 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh registered 1,287 rape cases in the past three years, resulting in convictions in 66 of them, while 775 cases remain pending in courts, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu told the state Assembly on Tuesday.
Sukhu, in a written reply to a question raised by BJP MLA from Karsog Deepraj, said 309 murder cases were also registered in the state during the period. Of these, the accused were convicted in five cases and acquitted in six, while 233 cases remain subjudice.
A total of 5,773 cases involving murder, theft, dacoity and kidnapping were registered in Himachal Pradesh over the last three years, up to July 31, 2026, the chief minister said.
These included 309 murder cases, 3,481 theft cases, 13 dacoity cases and 1,970 kidnapping cases.
The chief minister’s written reply also mentioned that 4,379 cases of crimes against women were registered during the period.
These comprised 1,287 rape cases, 435 cases of molestation, 646 cases of harassment, 96 cases of murder of women and 1,915 cases of exploitation.
Of the 1,287 rape cases, 66 resulted in convictions and 219 in acquittals, while 775 cases remain pending in courts, according to the reply.
Shimla district recorded the highest number of murder cases in the state, with 50 such cases registered during the period. It also topped the list for theft cases, with 455 cases.
Mandi recorded the highest number of rape cases at 187, followed by Shimla and Sirmaur, which reported 168 cases each. PTI BPL NB NB
