Dharamshala (HP), Jun 24 (PTI) The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on Wednesday took cognisance of an incident in which the principal of a private school in Kangra district allegedly thrashed a student for not completing his homework, and sought a status report from the police.
CWC, Kangra, Chairperson Vikramjit Sharma said the committee sought a status report from the Nurpur police and directed them to take appropriate action in the matter.
The incident happened on Monday, when the principal of the school in Sadwan’s Nurpur area had allegedly thrashed a Class VII student from Ladori village for not completing his homework.
The incident sparked outrage among the student’s family members and villagers who gathered at Nurpur police station on Wednesday, and lodged a protest against the school administration, demanding strict action against those responsible.
A case under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act and BNS Section 115(2) ( causing physical harm) has been registered, and further investigations are underway, the police said.
In her complaint, the boy’s mother, Usha Devi, alleged that after her son failed to complete his homework assigned by the class teacher, the principal beat her child, leaving visible injury marks. PTI COR BPL KSI KSI
