Shimla, Oct 26 (PTI) Leader of Opposition in Himachal Pradesh Assembly Jai Ram Thakur on Saturday lashed out at Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu over the recent notification regarding abolishing posts lying vacant for the past two decades while Sukhu retorted saying the redundant posts are not being abolished but will be converted to other posts on need basis.

Clarifying about the notification regarding abolition of posts lying vacant for the last 20 years, Sukhu said the opposition has reacted to it without complete information. These posts will actually be converted into other useful posts, he added.

Thakur alleged that the state government was doing away with posts of junior assistant, sub-divisional officers and executive engineers in the name of cost-cutting.

“The notification regarding job termination will have a far-reaching impact in Himachal as about 1.50 lakh jobs have been terminated in the state. Instead of giving two lakh jobs in two years, the government has terminated 1.50 lakh jobs and is misleading the people,” Thakur alleged.

The former chief minister said the Congress government was functioning in contrast to the promises made by the party during 2022 assembly polls.

Dubbing the Sukhu government as a government of ‘Pal Pal Paltu Ram’ at a press conference here, Thakur said the government was “issuing notifications and whitewashing them”.

The Congress party had promised five lakh jobs to the youth in five years and also promised to fill 65,000 vacant posts but during the past two years not a single job has been provided to the youth, Thakur said, adding that the “performance of the government was zero”.

“The youth have lost faith in the present state government and now there seems to be no possibility of jobs in Himachal in the coming times,” he said, asking the CM not to put the blame on others for it.

“Work is not being done without mistakes in the government and the CM should learn to speak the truth. It would have been better if he had abolished the posts of cabinet ministers,” Thakur said.

Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Sukhu alleged that former chief minister Thakur is indulging in false propaganda to misguide the people. “His (Thakur’s) government provided only 20,000 jobs in five years,” Sukhu said.

He said the BJP is making false allegations through “gossip and whispering campaigns” to create an impression that something wrong is being done. He asked the social media commentators to verify the fact and procure complete information before making comments.

Sukhu said the posts of typists are no longer relevant and the government has already decided to create the posts of nurses and mining officers.

Reiterating the resolve of his government to provide jobs to unemployed youth, the chief minister said 19,000 posts will be filled by the time the government completes two years in office on December 11 and 3,000 more posts are in the pipeline. PTI COR BPL KSS KSS
