Shimla, Oct 25 (PTI) BJP State In-charge for Himachal Pradesh and Mathura MLA Shrikant Sharma on Sunday hit out at the Congress-led state government for allegedly neglecting tribal areas and accused it of being only interested in securing votes from the people of Lahaul and Spiti.

Sharma said this while interacting with locals and BJP workers in the Trilokinath area of Udaipur Mandal. He said that complaints had emerged from Jalma Panchayat and surrounding areas regarding the non-availability of even basic medicines for common ailments such as cold at government healthcare institutions.

“If primary health centres cannot provide medicines for common illnesses, how will the government ensure treatment for seriously ill patients during the harsh winter months?” he asked.

He said that several villages in tribal regions face connectivity challenges during winter. “Therefore, ensuring adequate stocks of essential medicines, functional healthcare facilities and emergency medical services must be the state government’s foremost priority”, said Sharma.

Sharma said while development and improvement works were being undertaken on national highways under the BJP-ruled Central government, several rural link roads falling under the state government’s responsibility remained neglected.

He alleged that Congress leaders were more interested in criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central government than addressing the deteriorating condition of healthcare institutions and rural infrastructure under their own administration.

Sharma urged BJP workers to remain actively connected with local communities, identify their problems and raise public concerns through appropriate administrative channels. PTI COR AMJ

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
