Dharamshala, Jul 17 (PTI) A Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus caught fire in Kangra district on Friday, with all passengers escaping unhurt, officials said.

The HRTC bus, attached to the Palampur depot, was travelling from Sarut to Palampur via Chauki and Parmarnagar when smoke was noticed emerging from the vehicle near Kaluna village, they said.

According to the passengers, the driver immediately stopped the bus by the roadside, while the conductor evacuated everyone safely before the flames engulfed the vehicle.

Within moments, the smoke turned into a massive fire that rapidly spread through the bus.

The passengers suspected an electrical short circuit had caused the fire, although the exact cause is yet to be ascertained.

The officials from the HRTC and the local administration rushed to the spot after receiving information.

An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the fire, they said. PTI COR BPL SMV APL
