Chennai, Apr 24 (PTI) Citing the unprecedented 85 per cent voter turnout in the April 23 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, PMK leader Dr Anbumani Ramadoss on Friday claimed that it will pave way for change in government.
PMK (headed by Anbumani), an ally of the AIADMK-led NDA, had contested 18 Assembly seats.
Tamil Nadu recorded a voting percentage of 85.15, its highest ever, on Thursday when elections were held to 234 Assembly segments, according to EC figures.
“Everyone can clearly understand that these votes are indeed for a change of government. It is for this very verdict that the people of Tamil Nadu have been waiting. This verdict will liberate the people of Tamil Nadu from a evil regime.
“There is absolutely no doubt that the times ahead will bring happiness to the people of Tamil Nadu, ensure safety for women and children, and provide a peaceful, tranquil life for all,” Anbumani said in a statement here.
“People like me, who have toured Tamil Nadu and met the people, could understand the anger. They expressed their anger in the elections and the result was an unprecedented voter turnout,” the former union minister said.
Stating that the people of Tamil Nadu have always been staunch respecters of democracy and proponents of peaceful revolution, he said, “Once again, they have demonstrated precisely this”.
Anbumani alleged that the DMK government failed to discharge any of the fundamental duties, including maintaining law and order, curbing narcotics, providing safety to women and children, and creating employment opportunities. PTI SNR SNR KH
