Heatwave in Punjab, Haryana: Bathinda sizzles at 47 deg C, Sirsa records 46.2 deg C

Chandigarh, May 18 (PTI) Heatwave tightened its grip over Punjab and Haryana as maximum temperatures across the two state further rose on Monday, with Bathinda recording a high of 47 degrees Celsius and Sirsa 46.2 degrees Celsius.

While blistering heat swept the two neighbouring states, their common capital Chandigarh also recorded the season’s hottest day so far at 42 degrees Celsius.

According to the MeT here, among other places in Punjab, sizzling heat prevailed in Faridkot at 46.4 degrees Celsius.

Amritsar recorded a maximum of 42 degrees, Ludhiana 42.2 degrees Celsius while Patiala recorded a high of 44 degrees Celsius.

In Haryana, Rohtak, Narnaul and Hisar recorded respective maximums of 45.2 degrees Celsius, 44.3 degrees Celsius and 44.4 degrees Celsius.

Ambala, too, braved a hot day recording a high of 43 degrees Celsius while Karnal recorded a high of 42.5 degrees Celsius. Sizzling heat also prevailed in Gurugram at 42 degrees Celsius. PTI SUN NB NB
