Chandigarh, Sep 9 (PTI) Panchkula police on Wednesday created green corridors to transport the life-saving organs of the wife of an armyman, who was declared brain dead at Command Hospital, Chandimandir Cantt.
According to Panchkula Deputy Commissioner of Police Aditi Singh, a green corridor was created to carry one kidney from Command Hospital to PGIMS hospital in Rohtak.
A second green corridor was created to transport the heart to Chandigarh Airport, from where the Fortis Hospital heart retrieval team would take it further to its destination.
Police facilitated the route from Command Hospital through Old Panchkula up to the Zirakpur border, Singh said in an official statement.
Since organ transportation is highly time-sensitive, Panchkula Traffic Police, under the supervision of Traffic SHO Varinder Kumar, made special arrangements to keep traffic moving smoothly along both routes.
Police Commissioner Pankaj Nain said that organ donation is one of the greatest forms of service to humanity and that every second matters in such cases.
He also appreciated the donor family for taking such a decision, which may help give a new lease of life to many in need. PTI SUN VN VN
