Kurukshetra, Oct 25 (PTI) Guest teachers of government schools in Haryana took out a protest march on Sunday demanding regularisation of their services, squatting on the GT Road and raising slogans against the state and Central governments.

The protesting teachers blocked the GT Road near Pratapgarh village in Kurukshetra district for about 15 minutes, halting traffic towards Ambala as police diverted vehicles through the service lane, officials said.

The state president of the Guest Teachers Joint Struggle Front, Dinesh Yadav, said the government should regularise the services of guest teachers who meet the eligibility criteria.

The teachers have been staging an indefinite protest at the Mini Secretariat in Kurukshetra since June 23. They also demonstrated near the chief minister’s residence on October 10, when water cannons were used to disperse them.

The group plans to submit memorandums to legislators and ministers on Monday. It is also preparing to hold rallies in Gurugram, Kaithal, Ambala, Karnal, Hisar and Rohtak on November 1 to press their demand. PTI COR CHS ARI

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
