Faridabad, Sep 22 (PTI) A Haryana Police head constable was found shot dead inside a hut near a bridge in Faridabad’s Sector 29 on Tuesday with his service carbine lying beside him, police said.
The deceased, identified as 47-year-old Virendra, was deployed as part of an escort guard and was on duty when the incident occurred, according to police.
A preliminary investigation suggests that the bullet was fired from his service carbine and struck him in the chest.
Police said Virendra, a resident of Godota village in Palwal district, had been deployed with the escort guard at the Police Lines in Sector 30 since 2024. He had come to Sector 29 on Tuesday for some work and was carrying his service carbine.
While in the area, Virendra sat inside a hut located near a bridge. The hut has two cots where traffic police personnel often sit, police said.
At around 1.30 pm, traffic police personnel on duty near the bridge heard a gunshot coming from the hut. When they rushed to the spot, they found Virendra lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to his chest. His service carbine was lying nearby, police said.
He was immediately rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead on examination.
Police officers reached the hospital after being informed about the incident and made inquiries. The carbine found at the scene was also seized, while Virendra’s family members reached the hospital after receiving information about his death, police said.
“We are investigating the circumstances under which the shot was fired and the reason for Virendra’s visit to Sector 29. CCTV cameras in the vicinity are also being examined to determine whether Virendra went to Sector 29 alone or accompanied by someone else. A probe is underway,” said Rajiv Kumar, ACP Central, Faridabad.
Virendra joined the Haryana Police in 2004, police said. His family lives in his native village, Godota.
