Dehradun, Jul 18 (PTI) Over 90 loudspeakers installed at religious sites across Haridwar in Uttarakhand were removed by police on Saturday for exceeding permissible noise levels as part of a special drive conducted in compliance with Supreme Court directives, officials said on Saturday.

Police teams carried out inspections at religious sites across multiple police station areas in both the urban and rural parts of the district.

During the drive, 31 loudspeakers were removed from city areas, while 63 were taken down from rural locations for exceeding the permissible noise levels.

Officials said the drive was conducted to ensure compliance with the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, as well as court orders and government directives.

Those managing the religious sites, including individuals and committees, were sensitised about the applicable regulations and instructed not to use loudspeakers without obtaining permission from the competent authority and ensuring adherence to prescribed noise standards.

Police warned that any future violations would invite legal action under the relevant laws and rules. PTI DPT NB
