Gurugram, Aug 10 (PTI) A woman, who was caught on camera allegedly assaulting her domestic help inside a luxury apartment here, was arrested by Gurugram Police on Monday and later released on police bail after she agreed to join the investigation, officials said.
An FIR was registered against the woman based on a nearly 90-second video clip recorded by a neighbour through a kitchen window, they said.
The 52-year-old woman, a resident of The Camellias Apartment on Golf Course Road in Sector 42, has been booked under Section 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), police said.
A senior police officer said the video, recorded from another apartment through a kitchen window, shows the woman repeatedly slapping the domestic help inside the kitchen and pulling her hair.
According to an official statement, the police team of Sushant Lok police station took suo motu cognisance of the video that had gone viral on social media platform X and initiated an inquiry.
During the inquiry, police found that the incident took place on July 24 at The Camellias Apartment in Sector 42, following which a case was registered at Sushant Lok police station under relevant sections, the statement said.
The police said the accused woman joined the investigation.
“During the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the woman whom the accused had assaulted was her domestic help, who had left the job on July 27. The accused woman had assaulted the domestic help following an argument regarding work. Further action in the case will be taken as per rules. The case is under investigation,” a Gurugram Police spokesperson said.
According to police sources, the domestic help, a native of Nepal, had been working at the accused woman’s home for around two years.
A relative of the domestic help had earlier said that she had not lodged any complaint with the Gurugram Police and did not hold any grievance against her employer.
The domestic help seen in the video has since returned to her hometown and, in a written statement, requested that the video be removed from social media platforms, police sources said.
The police, however, took suo motu cognisance of the viral video and initiated action.
Police said the circumstances surrounding the incident and the video are being investigated. PTI COR NB NB
