Gurugram, Nov 6 (PTI) The Gurugram police arrested two people, including a truck driver, for stealing iPhones from a transport vehicle, police said on Friday.

A canter truck used in the crime, 32 stolen iPhones, and one pair of pliers were recovered from their possession, police said on Friday.

On October 29, a complaint was filed at the Farrukhnagar police station, stating that 206 cartons of goods had been dispatched from Farrukhnagar to Chaudwar, Cuttack, in Odisha, using a sealed vehicle.

Upon arrival at the destination, the seal on the vehicle was found intact. However, during an inspection of the consignment, it was discovered that the actual mobile phones were missing from 32 cartons. Only their empty boxes and packaging remained, according to the complaint.

In total, the accused stole mobile phones valued at approximately Rs 45 lakh. Following the complaint, an FIR was registered at the Farrukhnagar police station.

During the investigation, the police arrested two suspects, identified as Amit Pandey (30) and Kartikeya Srivastava (32). Pandey was apprehended in Faridabad on November 2, while Srivastava was arrested in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, on November 5.

Pandey, who was the truck driver, was presented in court and taken into four days of police remand for further interrogation, while his accomplice was sent to judicial custody.

“During police interrogation, the accused disclosed that they had stolen the mobile phones kept in 32 cartons from the sealed transport vehicle while the consignment was in transit. To avoid detection of the theft, they deliberately left the empty boxes and packaging cartons inside the vehicle. We are questioning the accused”, a senior police officer said. PTI COR MPL
