Chandigarh, Sep 14 (PTI) A man was arrested for allegedly stocking and selling medicines containing psychotropic substances following a raid at a house in Gurugram’s Sohna, an official said on Monday, adding that 49 bottles of codeine-laced syrup and 520 tablets of Alprazolam were recovered from the premises.
A joint team of the Haryana Drugs Control Department and police on September 12 conducted the raid at residential premises in Kabir Nagar, allegedly being used by Amir for illegal stocking and sale of narcotic substances, Health and Family Welfare Additional Chief Secretary, Sumita Misra, said.
According to a statement, when the team reached the premises, women present inside the house locked the entry gate. As the team attempted to entre the premises, some neighbours also created a disturbance at the spot.
A plastic sack containing 49 codeine-laced syrups and a box containing 520 Alprazolam tablets was thrown from the roof of the house onto open land at the rear of the premises. Following this, the accused allegedly fled from the spot and was later arrested by the police, she said.
The team seized the medicines, and subsequently a case was registered at the Sohna police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Misra said.
“The case relates to alleged illegal stocking and sale of medicines containing narcotic/psychotropic substances,” the statement said.
Misra has directed that Codeine-laced syrups, Alprazolam and other dual-use prescription drugs shall be sold only against a valid prescription of a registered medical practitioner. All chemists’ shops have been directed to ensure strict compliance and not to sell or supply these medicines without a prescription. PTI SUN SHS
